A vasectomy in the USA costs anything between 300 and 3000 dollars. That price would typically cover the first consultation you go for, the procedure itself, anesthesia and semen screening after the procedure.

Each health insurance company is different in terms of how readily it covers vasectomy.  You may be covered 100% or may first need to meet your deductible before your insurance kicks in to cover the costs.  We aim to make this quality procedure affordable for everyone, regardless of type of insurance or income level.

Depending on where your surgery takes place, the costs of vasectomy may differ significantly. A vasectomy is usually carried out by a board-certified urologist, family physician, or general surgeon at a doctor's office, operating room, or clinic. If it's in a surgical facility, the vasectomy might cost more, as some hospitals charge additional costs for using of the facility or for anesthesia. The cost may sometimes be increased if any additional testing is needed before or after the vasectomy.  For most people, aside from the post vasectomy semen test, no additional testing is needed.

Our Three step process

Step 1

Make an appointment for your initial consultation visit.  You can call or register online.

If you are ready, you may also have your vasectomy the same day.   (Note: some insurances require a wait period between consultation and getting the procedure.)

Step 2

Get the vasectomy.  It usually takes less than 15 minutes using our quick no-scalpel method.

That day, relax with your legs up.  Rest for 1-2 days.  Wait a week for any really strenuous activity.

Step 3

Follow up: 2-3 months after your vasectomy drop off a semen sample.

You won't notice a difference, so we'll check for any sperm under a microscope to make sure you have the all clear!

Weighing the Costs of a Vasectomy vs. Other Forms of Birth Control Brookline, MA

Vasectomy is among the very best birth control methods in terms of cost benefit.  Compared to other birth control methods it ranks #2 (copper 12 year IUD is #1).  If we do not discuss the cost of not undergoing a vasectomy, a discussion on the cost of a vasectomy would not be complete. The cost benefit of vasectomy is even higher when compared to NOT using reliable contraception- ie pregnancy or having another child.

The birth control pill, patch, ring, and shot are meant to be affordable, and luckily with the ACA, are mostly covered, but for those not covered, the monthly costs can add up for all the years that birth control is needed.  Not to mention the need to get to the pharmacy or prescriber on a regular basis for refills and new prescriptions. The one time cost of a vasectomy is a definite plus.  Many couples and individuals prefer vasectomy because it is a hormone-free method.

Condoms (and abstinence) are the best methods for preventing infection, but are not among the most reliable at preventing pregnancy with "typical" use.

When you are trying to choose a form of birth control, there are many other things to consider, but the gist here is that the cost per year of use is one of the smallest. How well it works is one of the highest.

Medical Insurance Coverage Brookline, MA

Many medical insurance companies cover the costs of vasectomy as an outpatient operation, but you can confirm from the insurance provider and check for any limitations. If the set amount for your yearly deductible has been reached, your medical insurance company is likely to pay for all or most of your vasectomy expenses. Masshealth (Medicaid) and other state programs also cover vasectomy.

Many hospitals or clinics can offer a variable scale fee, calculated based on your income, if you don't have a medical insurance plan or your plan does not cover vasectomy services.  Northeast Vasectomy may be able to offer a discount on the cash cost of your vasectomy, based on your needs. We honor contracted rates with insurance providers with whom we are contracted.

If you plan to undergo permanent contraception, ensure that you are certain of the decision. If you are, please feel free to compare our charges with other providers.

Several factors are involved in choosing the best form of birth control, including the desires of you and any partner(s), the risks and side effects associated with each method, how well the method works, and even the possibility of later reconsidering the decisions that you've made.
